Powder engineering for health and nutrition

Characterizing solids (powders, powder mixtures, coated particles, composite particles, polymers, etc.), understanding and predicting their structure during processing, and understanding and predicting their functionality in terms of their response to a given solicitation, in an environment representative of their intended use, are major challenges in a large number of industrial sectors (pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, agri-food, biotechnology, chemistry, etc.) to which the RAPSODEE center contributes.

Meeting the key challenges facing companies and the industry of the future

As a key player in the industry of the future, IMT Mines Albi trains rigorous general engineers capable of mastering the manufacturing processes (solids chain, biotechnologies, pharmaceutical chemistry) and regulations implemented in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetics industries, as well as the associated business processes (lean management, BPM), taking into account the specific constraints of these industries.

A closer look at the RAPSODEE UMR CNRS 5302 center

The RAPSODEE (Recherche d’Albi en génie des Procédés des SOlides Divisés, de l’Energie et de l’Environnement - Albi Research in Process Engineering of Divided Solids, Energy and the Environment) UMR CNRS 5302 center is an IMT Mines Albi education and research center specializing in process engineering. Powders, or divided solids, are used in the manufacture of many finished products in industrial sectors, and are the focus of the RAPSODEE UMR CNRS 5302 center.

In the field of health and nutrition, the RAPSODEE center focuses on solid generation processes, processes for the use and shaping of divided solids, and the production of solids (powders, coated particles, composite particles, compressed materials, polymers, etc.) with efficacy (reactivity, bioavailability, dispersion, wettability, etc.), granular texture or mechanical strength, by developing, for example, solvent-free or continuous processes.

Fabienne Espitalier

Director of RAPSODEE UMR CNRS 5302

"The RAPSODEE center boasts a team of lecturers and researchers specializing in process engineering and physical chemistry, enabling it to address issues relating to the generation and shaping of high-performance solids/materials with controlled properties, or the production of renewable energy carriers. To achieve this, original and innovative approaches are used, combining experimental studies with multi-physical and multi-scale modeling and numerical simulations. In this way, it can propose solutions to concrete industrial problems, particularly in the fields of energy, the environment, health and nutrition."

High-level training in process engineering

In direct line with its expertise in particle and process engineering, IMT Mines Albi trains general engineers to meet the key challenges of the pharmaceutical, agri-food and cosmetics industries. IMT Mines Albi is also authorized to award PhDs.
