The ranking established by Stanford University is one of the most widely recognized worldwide for assessing the influence of researchers in various scientific fields. This ranking, also known as “Stanford/Elsevier's Top 2% Scientists”, is based on bibliometric data from the Scopus database. It takes into account researchers' citations, their h-index (an index measuring a researcher's impact), as well as other parameters such as number of publications and co-authorship.
This ranking distinguishes around 210,000 scientists from over 8 million active worldwide. Researchers are classified in 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields.
