The Institut Clément Ader UMR CNRS 5312 site d'Albi (ICA-A) is a training and research center of IMT Mines Albi. It focuses on the study of mechanical structures, systems and processes. Its areas of activity are in line with those of tomorrow's transport, with a particular focus on projects in the aeronautics, space, transport and energy sectors.
A research center dedicated to the study of mechanical structures, systems and processes
The Institut Clément Ader (ICA) has a staff of 250 and is run by five different organizations: IMT Mines Albi, INSA Toulouse, ISAE-SUPAERO, Université de Toulouse III and CNRS.
Institut Clément Ader UMR CNRS 5312 site d'Albi (ICA-A), is a component of ICA located at IMT Mines Albi whose staff participate in three of ICA's four research groups:
- Composite Materials and Structures
- Surfaces, Machining, Materials, Tooling
- Metrology, Identification, Control, Monitoring
The Institut Clément Ader UMR CNRS 5312 site d'Albi (ICA-A) develops high-performance materials solutions and associated processes, in response to the key challenges facing companies and the industry of the future. Imagining and creating safer, greener materials, structures and processes to meet the major challenges of transition. ICA-A's focus is on optimizing tools and processes for shaping materials (metals, composites, polymers, glass, etc.) and studying the relationship between microstructure, process and behavior, particularly in the aerospace sector. ICA-A has its own research platform on the IMT Mines Albi campus, the MIMAUSA platform.
The ICA-A center has been under the direction of Anaïs Barasinski since September 1, 2024.

Metal additive manufacturing: is there strength in numbers?
3D printing brings together a wide variety of manufacturing techniques, each with its own advantages. Is it possible to combine two different ones, retaining only the associated benefits? A research team at the Institut Clément Ader has investigated the hybridization of two processes, applied to a metal alloy with remarkable properties.
3D printing: from the Earth to the Moon
3D printing (or additive manufacturing) is no longer reserved for plastic objects. The possibilities offered by this technology are now numerous: from industrial parts made from metal powders, to printing objects ... directly on the Moon!
Composite materials: a recipe for performance
Between lightness and performance, composite materials offer advantages that are revolutionizing many industrial sectors. How are they developed? What are their advantages over conventional materials? How can they be recycled?
