Attracting, protecting and fostering nature at IMT Mines Albi
Created in 1912, the Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux (LPO) acts in three key areas:
- knowledge and conservation of biodiversity
- preservation and management of natural areas
- education in environmental issues and citizen involvement.
The organization leads a national program, Refuges LPO [LPO Sanctuaries] for the preservation of biodiversity and the discovery of local wildlife. This certification promotes areas which preserve and encourage biodiversity, while offering a certain quality of life to humans. IMT Mines Albi is engaged in this program to enhance and promote its natural heritage and raise public awareness.
IMT Mines Albi becomes an LPO bird sanctuary
Membership of the LPO sanctuaries represents an active engagement in association with the LPO and its network. IMT Mines Albi is taking part in the collective effort to protect nature by maintaining and developing the wildlife and landscape on its campus. Students from the I2D organization (Engineers for Sustainable Development) are teaming up with the project and will contribute to the various actions planned under this biodiversity preservation program.
The institution undertakes to:
- Create favorable conditions for soil life and wildlife (flora and fauna)
- Protect its sanctuary from all forms of pollution
- Reduce its environmental impact
Under the agreement and as part of a 3-year action plan, an initial survey was carried out on site by experts.
